How to Chant Prayers to Phaya Yommarat (Yamaraj) and How Many Times to Recite Them

Many devotees seek guidance on how to properly recite prayers to Phaya Yommarat in accordance with traditional beliefs. According to Mor Plai Prai Krasip, sincere devotion and proper practice may help devotees receive the compassion and blessings of Phaya Yommarat.

Prayer to worship Phaya Yommarat

“Pa To Metang Para Chiwanang Sugato Chutti Chitta Meta Nippanang Sugato Chutti”

  • Two black incense sticks should always be offered.
(Because incense smoke is believed to serve as a medium connecting devotees with deities and sacred beings.)
(Electric incense or artificial incense should not be used.)

Different numbers of recitations are believed to serve different purposes:

• 2 recitations – For general worship and offerings.
• 5 recitations – To dedicate merit to the deceased through Phaya Yommarat.
• 7 recitations – For health, safety, and protection from accidents.
• 8 recitations – For wealth and good fortune.
• 9 recitations – For progress and advancement in life.
• 11 recitations – To seek assistance in removing negative influences or spiritual afflictions.
• 17 recitations – For those who have experienced an accident and feel that negative energies still remain.
• 35 or 39 recitations – For urgent prayers or requests for immediate assistance.

Mor Plai also recommends lighting two incense sticks and regularly dedicating merit to Phaya Yommarat through the pouring of water as an act of merit transfer. By practicing consistently, devotees believe they may achieve their wishes and aspirations.

In addition, Rabbit Care has provided information that other prayers may also be used when worshipping Phaya Yommarat:

“Puttakamo Labhe Puttang Thanakamo Labhe Thanang Atthikayeka Yayaya Devanang Satthangsuttawa
Iti Piso Bhagava Yama Rajano Thao Wessuwan No Maranang Sukhang Araham Sukhato Namo Buddhaya”

Or:

“Om Phaya Maracha Upadawataya Mahissa Pahanaya Dakkhinathisa
Thitaya Agacchan Bhunjatu Khippayatu Vippayatu Sawaha Sawahaya
Sappa Upadawa Winasaya Sappa Antaraya Winasaya Sukha Vaddhako Hotu
