The Element Balancing and Misfortune-Cleansing Ritual, traditionally known as “Pa Pak Ka Ho,” is a ritual for cleansing negative energy from the body and destiny. It is based on the principle of the Four Elements—Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire—to restore balance to one’s life energy.
According to traditional belief, people experiencing a period of bad luck often encounter the following:
- Repeated obstacles no matter what they do
- Frequent illness or unexplained fatigue
- Recurring nightmares or a constant feeling of unseen pressure
- Financial leakage and difficulty saving money
The ritual focuses on “element tapping” to disperse negative energy attached to the individual, whether believed to arise from past karma, resentment, black magic, or unseen spiritual disturbances.
Sacred Leaves Used According to the Four Elements
The heart of the ritual lies in using sacred leaves representing the Four Elements, selected according to the participant’s day of birth, so that the elemental cycle is complete.

Fire Element – Purification and the Removal of Misfortune
Coconut Leaves
Represent elevation and lifting one’s destiny from its lowest point. As the coconut tree receives abundant sunlight, it symbolizes the pure Fire Element.
Pineapple Leaves
Their sharp thorns symbolize piercing through negative influences, exposing hidden negative energy, and cutting away recurring misfortune.

Earth Element – Stability and Establishing a Firm Foundation
Betel Leaves
Possessing both cooling and warming qualities, they symbolize purification and emotional balance, like fertile earth nourished by water.
Lagerstroemia Leaves
Taken from a hardwood tree known for its durability, they represent endurance, longevity, and resilience in the face of adversity.

Wind Element – Sweeping Misfortune Away
Guanyin Leaves
Associated with the compassionate merit of Guanyin Bodhisattva.
Symbolically, the Wind Element carries away negative influences from one’s life energy. Guanyin leaves are therefore used during the ritual to subdue and dispel black magic, wandering spirits, or intrusive negative energies.

Water Element – Cleansing and Sealing Financial and Spiritual Leaks
Croton Leaves
Their many auspicious colors symbolize the combined energy of prosperity and good fortune. They are believed to ward off malevolent spirits and remove inauspicious influences.
Mango Leaves
Traditionally used in rituals to dispel disturbances and prevent negative forces from entering the home or body, symbolizing the complete sweeping away of lingering negative energy.
Number of Leaves According to the Power of the Birth Day (The Core of the Ritual)
- Sunday – 6
- Monday – 15
- Tuesday – 8
- Wednesday – 17
- Thursday – 19
